Designer Details: THE AMELIA RUNWAY COLLECTION

Pull up a chair to our Designer’s Desk, as we explore the details, story, and motivation behind the Limited-Edition Amelia Runway Collection.

Design Philosophy

We believe in expertly engineering products that tell a story. All our products are deliberately designed to elevate your everyday in every way.

This ethos could not be more apparent than with our latest launch of the Amelia Runway Collection.

Designed and handcrafted in the USA. In our latest offering we celebrate the extraordinary life of Amelia Earhart, the Aviatrix Icon, Fashion Designer and Women’s Right Activist.

Alongside our Chief Design Officer, Muideen Ogunmola, we’re pulling up a chair at the Designers Desk ready to breakdown the deliberate details and storytelling infused into the product.

From the Designer's Desk

What was the spark?

Product. At Randolph, we’re a product focused brand, known for our expert engineering, premium materials, jewelry quality finishes and military grade eyewear, we've been handcrafting the highest quality eyewear made in the USA for 50+ years, so yeah... you could say we know a thing or two about making great, long-lasting product.

How did we reimagine Amelia Earhart's legacy in eyewear? So, when it came to the creation of this collection -- It started with a simple yet profound question: Why isn’t there a white gold Amelia? That question energized lead designer, Muideen’s mind.

“We lacked our most premium finish (23k White Gold) in our bestselling women’s style—the Amelia. Unacceptable. However, it wasn’t enough to just introduce the frame; we needed to do it right and honor the person behind the inspiration.” – [Muideen Ogunmola, Sr. Design Manager]

So, with that we wanted to create a style that told a story, that zoomed out and would be best representative of Amelia as a whole, not just as an Aviation icon,

To really tell the story, we had to ask ourselves:

Who Is Amelia?

A Renaissance Woman of the early 20th century, it’s hard to grasp while looking back, just how Big and influential Amelia Earhart was. An international icon, she drew crowds wherever she landed, captivating the world with her daring and determination.” – [Muideen Ogunmola, Sr. Design Manager]

With her aviation feats well documented, our focus shifted to the lesser-known aspects of her life. As we researched further into the story of Amelia, we discovered her passion for fashion.

In 1929, at the height of her celebrity. Earhart designed a line of functional yet stylish clothing for active women, reflecting her own lifestyle and the needs of contemporary women.

The clothing line, named "Amelia Earhart Fashions," was introduced at Macy's and Marshall Field's department stores.

Her designs were practical, often including wrinkle-free materials and deep pockets, catering to the needs of women who, like herself, led busy, active lives.

Her Fashion Career inspired many of our product design choices.

LAST: Naming The Campaign:

Runway Motif

The last part of creating the campaign is in the naming. Like Juliet pondered, what is in a name? Well for this campaign, it’s quite profound.

“The runway serves as a unifying motif for this collection, bridging Amelia’s two worlds: aviation and fashion. In aviation, a runway is a starting point in every journey a path to takeoff.  representing bold beginnings and new adventures. In fashion, a runway is a stage of self-expression for showcasing style and elegance. By merging these aspects, the Amelia Runway Collection honors both Amelia's aviation milestones and her fashion legacy, bridging her two worlds together and telling the whole story of her being.” – [Muideen Ogunmola, Sr. Design Manager]
